LEED Gold Dormitory Rises from Former Parking Lot
NORTHFIELD, Vermont – Norwich University's first new dormitory in 21 years just qualified for LEED® Gold certification, one of six Vermont buildings to do so. Surrounded by mountain views, the 5-story, 73,000gsf South Hall is tucked into a stand of pines and features sustainably harvested mill work, local granite and Vermont-produced furniture. The 280-bed dormitory rises from what was once a parking lot, out of which 450 tons of asphalt were recycled and reused as the roadway leading to it. In association with Perry Dean Rogers Partners of Boston, MA, Freeman French Freeman worked with the University to establish South Hall as the future sustainable benchmark for all new construction projects at Norwich University. The USGBC recognized South Hall for its exemplary performance in the use of recycled content and locally sourced materials. |
