Vermont Laboratory Wins AIA New England Award

November 3, 2020

The Vermont Agriculture and Environmental Laboratory (VAEL) was recognized for architectural excellence at the 2020 AIA New England Design Awards this fall. This project is a celebration of the team of dedicated scientists whose mission is to ensure the health and wellbeing of all Vermonters.

Located on the Vermont Tech campus in Randolph Center, Vermont, the facility sets a new standard of operational and material sustainability for the State of Vermont. After years spent working in temporary labs scattered all over the state, the new building includes numerous chemistry testing labs, a weights and measures unit, an animal pathology lab that includes a necropsy suite, a forest biology unit that houses an extensive specimen collection, and a biology area with a BSL 2+ lab.

The project was a joint effort between Freeman French Freeman and the Boston office of the global architecture and engineering firm, Cannon Design.
